Russia's Federal Service for Veterinary and Phytosanitary Surveillance (Rosselkhoznadzor) informs traders of the fact that due to the outbreak of foot and mouth disease (FMD) in Germany, it is currently impossible to import breeding pigs from all European Union member states.

This is due to the conditions stipulated in the veterinary certificate for breeding pigs exported from the European Union to the Russian Federation. In particular, cl. 4.1 states: “Clinically healthy breeding pigs exported to the Russian Federation, born and bred in the EU, not vaccinated against classical swine fever and Aujeszky's disease, originate from farms and/or administrative territories of the EU member states, officially free from contagious animal diseases, including FMD - within the last 12 months in the EU territory”.

Given these conditions, EU Member States can no longer fulfill this requirement.
